Cost of the Afghan war: US soldier murders 16 people on 4th deployment

The tragedy that occurred when a US Army sergeant murdered 16 civilians is yet another cost of the Afghan war.  This was the sergeant’s fourth deployment—three in Iraq and his first in Afghanistan.

How long are we going to be involved in these conflicts?  Obama can say he’s keeping his promises, but who cares at this point?  What does Afghanistan have to do with the safety and security of the United States?  Or is it because our politicians are in the back pocket of defense contractors who stand to lose if we pull out and come home?  Do any of them care if the cost of the Afghan war keeps going up?
