America’s Destruction of Iraq by Washington insider Michael M. O’Brien details the origins of the terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism now spreading across widening stretches of the Middle East. The outgrowth of America’s involvement in Iraq is the Islamic State, the most powerful, violent and dangerous terrorist group in history.

Michael M. O’Brien is an outlier, a staunch conservative and former political appointee in the administration of George W. Bush, with an abiding contempt for the political and military mismanagement of the Iraq War, officially referred to as Operation Iraqi Freedom. A graduate of West Point and former Infantry officer, O’Brien saw the Iraq War from the inside out—not as a soldier but as a contractor advising the new Iraqi Army and Ministry of Defence on base and facility reconstruction, and acquisition of land and Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) originally built for Coalition forces.

Compounding in outrage, compelling in detail, Michael M. O’Brien condemns the waste of tens of billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars—and the needless loss of American and Iraqi lives. The Bush administration’s desire for war was built on fabrication and the political agendas of its senior advisors. But it is the generals for which O’Brien saves his greatest disdain because they should have known how to properly execute the war, and the courage to tell their political superiors the truth.

America’s Destruction of Iraq is a detailed example of the “military-industrial complex” President Eisenhower warned America of in 1961. In a way only a contractor with a military and political background who was at the heart of America’s reconstruction of Iraq could do, O’Brien exposes military intervention in Iraq for what it is: a disaster equal to or worse than the quagmire of the Vietnam War.

Americas Destruction of Iraq details the deception and mismanagement of America’s involvement in Iraq since 1991, and continuing through to the present day.

About the Author: Michael O’Brien was in the first administration of George W. Bush: he was in Dacha, Bangladesh on 9/11, and on the staff of the Office of Homeland Security in the White House. He was a Department of Defense contractor in Iraq from June 2006 to September 2007—the height of the insurgency—as a senior advisor to the new Iraqi Ministry of Defense in Baghdad. Michael O’Brien is a graduate of West Point and former Infantry officer. He was also a Contracting Officer in the US government. Michael O’Brien lives in Arlington, Virginia.
